Yeah.. This is going to be a fun one. The samples were really creative this time, and a lot were ideas that we never saw before. Great job on the samples guys, I really think this will be the best SPC to date.

anyone know what the best way is of adding a pitch or filter envelope on a sample? i would have thought you could just open a sound in a wave editor, add pitch/filter envelope (setting start point, finish point and possibly curve), then save. goldwave doesn't have something like that though, so the only way i can think to do it is stick the sample in my sampler directory, open logic, load it in the sampler, sequence a note and add pitch bend/filter using controllers, then record the result again in goldwave. pretty lame method... it'd work but i'm kinda fed up with this sloppy workflow.

FL Studio's sampler has envelope for volume/cut/res/pitch

I was thinking... would it be okay to do a cover tune if it wasn't part of the main contest, but included in a bonus pack as an extra, like in previous contests?

By the way, these samples are great.

@Lawrence
EDIT:
If you have any covers or incomplete songs or etc, stuff that you made but won't be submitting/aren't able to submit, you can upload them somewhere and link them in the thread. But of course, they won't be accepted into the song pack.

Now this is interesting.

Ok, does anyone know a good tracker/mod application for complete novices? The only one I've used is Music2000 on the PSX, and I'm not sure that even counts.

I doubt I'll be able to pull anything off this time around - I know Midi and the MSGS, but squat all else, so it follows that I'd still be learning an app when the deadline rolled up. If it's easy enough to get started though, I might be able to put something in for the next one that rolls around. :)

Monochrome Man, I recommend Modplug Tracker, or OpenMPT. They're fairly easy to use once you understand the concept of tracking, and are fairly capable for music production.

Me and dusthillguy talked about having an official sync-listen session. What this is exactly, is a meeting on IRC where we listen through the songs together in a synchronized fashion and comment on them as we listen.

There's no date and time that can fit everyone - so I'd like to ask everyone to fill in their nick and what times that would work you.

for me, it's too early to say. it's over a month away yet. potentially the best times are between around 4PM and 1AM GMT/UTC, and it's probably best to do it on a weekend.

In the event that a sample is comprised of a single waveform, but each repetition is unique enough that cleanly looping it is impossible, may we loop a single iteration of the repeated pattern? It would sound "chipped", but the resulting instrument would very closely resemble the original sample.

I disagree and vomit at the thought of using those things :(

Try things like SchismTracker or Milkytracker which try to not butcher the host formats its meant to be for (IT and XM respectively...),,,,Honestly, while Modplug is nice, its format spitting out is utter trash. If you use it, its best to use its own format.
