I would have voted but I waited until too late, and too close to some unexpected things that prevented me from being able to submit any votes last minute. It would have changed a few placements around a space or so probably but overall not too much. I think I'll comment on all of the entries a bit later.

The 3 samples I submitted were...:

"FILLMORE!" which was something my brother and I recorded specifically for this contest to see how other people would use it. It's kind of an inside joke, that name being said with that particular silly inflection and intensity. However we intentionally recorded it with terrible quality and I added glitches+more overcompression into it just for fun.

"Akira" is a Fairlight CMI patch I'm very fond of known as "arr1.in." It's in tons of 80s music. Here's a particularly well known example of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux3u31SAeEM. I actually edited it a bit by adding some de-tuning and other stuff to it slightly. I called it "Akira" because of this being one of the pieces of music I associate it with the most http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=zicXG2xehow#t=163s.

"FMPan" was just a crazy rapidly panning back and forth FM synth patch I made specifically for this contest that I thought sounded cool!!!!!

@BlitzLunar when I first saw the title "rickwakeman" I was curious about what it might be as a big fan of him. Then when I clicked on it to hear it was that D50 patch I laughed very hard, because I've always been a huge fan of that patch as well, and I actually also associate it with him because of that exact same video. So it was a funny surprise that someone else actually attributes that sound to him as well.

I have a lot more to say...I'll reply to the comments I got, comment on all of the entries, and also comment on all of the samples, if who chose them reveal what they're from AND STUFF like that later.

Bonus bonanza time! Here's my four unofficial tracks using the original four SPC sample packs...

Yeaaaaaaaaah!
Silent Jungle
Funkmaster FBY
How to Party with Premade Drumbeats

Yes, these were re-posted from the SPC 5 topic. But I've got more... beta tracks that got axed!

From SPC 5
Bell Tune (unfinished)

From SPC 7
Awkward Cantankerous Tyrannical Anarchy (finished, but rejected by myself... a bit too much rinse, lather, repeat, especially during the ending)
Organ Solo (unfinished)

Rejected Tracknames for SPC 7 (I was in a parody mood for this SPC... these two were rejected. Actually, I did end up not getting a parody SOPA naming dead on due to a mistake in my lettering. Oops.)
Pink Is Pretty Awesome
Standard Outright Preposterous Action

And here are my sample sources...
Meow: Recorded off of a purple plastic McDonalds furby, who makes a meow-like sound when slowly turned upside down.
MiniOrgan: There are a few possible sources... Ensonique, maybe? Well, to tell you the truth, this was taken directly off of Mario Paint. I could have ripped it, but instead, I directly dumped a SPC of it. Actually, this was done back in June 2009!
RitualChant: Recorded direct off of a real furby saying "Ask a question" in Furbish, hence the "Oh Too Mah".
My game music works:
Scribble Star by Winzenheimer and the Stencyl Team
Nine Pixel Game by KungFuFurby (my own creation! ^_^)
Arkanaut by Manuel/Satelite Play
Blackheist by Manuel/Satelite Play

And some others that haven't been released yet.

my song didn't get last place

woah what, that's surprising

one of my favorite songs did get last place

what.

welp.

anyway: apologies for my sporadic comments. I tried to say something about each entry, but uh...with varied results.

sample sources and stuff!!!
DIST YO KICKS.wav: I wanted to throw some gabber-esque samples at you guys to see what you would do with them. Though they weren't used much, I was not disappointed. :)
glitch perc.wav: I like to open random non-sound files as samples and chop out anything that might be useful. This was oddly rythmic and could probably be used as a drum loop or something, but I never really used it in a song. SO HEY let's give it to these guys and see what they do with it! (apparently not much)
sweet fm synth.wav: I made this on some FM synth many years ago...and I don't remember how. But it's awesome. might as well enter a usable sample too, right?

I don't know if anyone is interested, but three of my songs (Joonas, de kraftiga penispojkarna, songstructureexperiment) have secrets hidden in them.

Just in case you want to try finding the secrets on your own, I'm going to put the solutions in a textfile instead of posting them here publicly.

Cracked open Joonas.mp3 using hex editor magic by cutting out the zip file after a quick lookup of start of file header and end of file headers, then extracting. Normally I don't do this, but I've done enough hacking of SPC files and SNES ROMs to give it a shot, and it worked! ^_^

Attempting to zip without hex editing didn't crash the computer, but it did fail with Stuffit Expander and BOMArchiveHelper. I don't think they search forward for the start of file header.

bass-chorus-C.wav - Well, I took my bass and played a C. Tried to make this one very usable and I'm glad it's been featured so extensively throughout the songs!
cowboydeath.wav - That's me screaming, initially for sfx in a flash game involving a cowboy. Really I couldn't think of any musical quality to it and just wanted to troll around.
icantfightyou.wav - Voice acting from the game Toshinden Remix... Too bad it hasn't been used (unless I didn't notice) because I thought it could have become a nice instrument if cut correctly.

I used it, but kind of badly since it kind of turned out to be edited too much which made it too unrecognizable. I didn't really intend that at all, but that's what I get for adding that in so last minute without really checking it until after the submission. It's at :45-:48 of mine, very heavy on reverb/delay, and pitch shifted very low.

I am actually really surprised I won, I thought Zensuka or Pongball would have easily beaten me.
Miss Fortune was really spazzy and syncopated, which is one of my weak areas, so I really thought it was the best technically.
Pongball's songs were very thematic and really reflected the title well, so I almost knew what to expect before even hearing the song.

To be honest, I thought this was one of the hardest SPCs to write for since a lot of the sounds were not easy to process.
They were all very sharp too, rather than the warm-smooth sounds I tend to prefer.

Also very disappointed-ru that all yous people did not submit a song.
Of course, YOU all know who I'm talking about.
It's like going to a steakhouse and they ran out of steak.
Maybe next time I guess. :(

And yeah, I was hoping to make one it's blatantly obvious me song and one to throw everyone off.
Unfortunately I only went with the blatantly obvious one since I ran out of time / ideas for the other one.
Here is my unfinished second song, which was supposed to be a parody of dubstep:
badstep
Sadly I couldn't think of a convincing badstep break and I didn't think it was funny enough/at all to be a parody.
(Probably needed Koolimpaas all over the place...)

My three samples were:
glock.wav = Microsoft GM glock. Something sampled.
fuzzybass.wav = Made on Sytrus I think..? Something made.
clicks.wav = Tongue clicks since I wanted to submit something recorded.

16th place? I admit I'm a bit disappointed. I was hoping for at least in the top ten...

I must say though, 41? What warranted that, Dentelle? Your review was pretty much positive? :(

41 almost means just passable as a song, does it not?

My samples...

OhSoTropical.wav:
Just a steel drum soundfont I found, playing a little jingle. I just wanted to submit a nice melody one.

WHY ARE YOU DUDE FIGHTING MODEL W.wav:
An excerpt from this song. I don't know what prompted me to take it in the first place. It just... happened. The name is simply what might be the stupidest line in the (already stupid) game. And yes, it should have been "DUDES", but I wrote it wrong and left it that way. For effect, doncha know.

Picklebarrel.wav
An excerpt from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. You know, the show that's been a bloody grassroots craze on the internet? And I admit, I am quite a fan myself, though I try to ignore the fact that it originally gained popularity from 4chan. I like to pretend that place doesn't exist. o-o
The sample is from a scene where Pinkie Pie is quite literally used by her friends to torture someone with her incessant chatter. Cracked me up, because both "Pickle Barrel" and "Kumquat" were words I remember giggling and laughing about when I was a lil' tyke. I sort of hoped there would be an entry that used this sample like one used my "Mmm Bananas" sample last time, but I only heard it used in kickingdicks.
I sometimes make belief and pretend I can compose

Everyone else is doing it, so I will as well.

penisexpert_1.wav - I recorded some notes from my bass guitar. I was actually playing the bassline from the opening of the pokemon song "biggest part of my life" (but in a different key) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEPahRsUu1I
penisexpert_2.wav - A pad sound I made for the 4th SPC back in 2009. It turned out to be quite a unique sound, so I thought I'd enter it into this one.
ridiculous.wav - From the opening of "Lucky Star". I thought I'd send in a sample that would be really hard to make any use of. I actually managed to make a bass sound out of it.

I made my songs using modplug tracker and some VST effects. Here are the source .it files if anyone wants them.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30614076/spc7_files.7z

I also wanted to say sorry to Blue.Nocturne, my comment on your song was a bit unfairly negative. It was a really well made song, after all.
And I also want to say sorry to whoever wrote "Quilava's Quartal Quandary COMPUTER Quickly Quits Quieting COMPUTER'S Quintessential Quantum COMPUTER.wav". I wrote my comments and scores quite early on. At the time this song hadn't made much of an impression me, but as time has passed I find that it's really quite nice. I would have rated it higher and said more positive things about it.

Thanks to all the people who wrote positive things about my songs. Dentelle's comments were especially nice.

I give up on Filefront/Gamefront, it's down too often.
I should just get a website domain someday and be super cool like Mr. Dave or something...
For now here's a dropbox link:
badstep

At Patrick: No problem at all, I didn't sense any hostility in your comment.
If someone realizes it, then it is somewhat true. It was one of my "auto-mode" songs.
Result of running out of time to do something out of comfort zone.

At Charybdizs: Try not to be too disappointed, I personally think you did well.
If you are happy with your song and you like it then it's fine.
I still like my Paradise Trance song over Snowflake Village, and actually was dumbfounded how it got beat out by SF.
Just remember that when you go for ambient or atmospheric pieces, you risk placing lower.
You don't hum atmospheric songs in the car, usually ones with strong melodies. (At least most people do...)
Maybe people just have an inclination to enjoy atmosphere songs as they are playing, but we can't seem to remember it well.

goldeneye.wav: This is the (usually) low pitched tambourine hit that was just in the GoldenEye soundtrack. This particular sample is a rip I found from the N64 cartridge I found somewhere on a forum.

mind.wav: This is a odd sample. I was searching for a sample of somebody losing it on IMDB. After 30 minutes I found the perfect one which went "I'm going crazy and I can't take it anymore" which was sampled from a episode from "The Rockford Files" which is a 1974 drama series. In that same conversation occured the line that is found in mind.wav.

whitewater.wav: This is a sample from a Williams pinball machine I used to play when I was younger. I was looking at a lot of pinball video's at the time and this sample was really memorable so I ripped it of a youtube video where somebody was play the machine.

I have to admit, both of my songs were unfinished. If I'd have had more time to write my entries, I'd have put a lot more effort into them. I actually had much better ideas in my head and I should have edited the samples a bit more, but I haven't experimented too much with FL Studio. Anyway, I could have sworn that two songs were by Lunar. Hope there is going to be a next SPC someday and that people who could't participate in this one will participate in the next one.

PS: It's interesting to see that some people have actually written their songs with Trackers. I sucks at doing this + it's extremely time consuming for me.

I'm also surprised about Maxo's "The Devil's Buttcrack". Would have never thought, that you wrote this *lmao*. After listening to this awesome Kirby thing :D

BREGALAD'S SMALL COCK

And just like last year, bregalad's scores and comments were ridiculous. But I was expecting that, so I'm not surprised or especially bothered about it.

Dude, what's your problem ?
You weren't even around here last year!
If this is you recation because I removed 10 points on your songs that had glitches at the end, then you should gripe on yourself - even if I'd wouldn't have done this the rankings wouldn't be much different anyways.

Now, I feel like there is a lot of people disappointed because their submitted samples were left unused. This clearly happened because there was too much samples in the pack.
I was actually going to use glitch_perc for percussion, but I didn't have the time/inspiration to make another song finally, even the only song I made is kind of unfinished. Life sucks sometimes.
